Terry O'Neill

The photographs O'Neill made for Shalako were taken at a producer's lunch in Deauville in 1968, before filming began. It was the first meeting between Brigitte Bardot and Sean Connery - two of the defining icons of the decade sharing a frame for the first time.
O'Neill had photographed almost everyone by this point, but Bardot remained singular to him. "It was extraordinary," he said. "I found it impossible to take a bad shot of her - she was the most natural, beautiful subject." That quality is visible in every frame from Deauville: a woman entirely unbothered by the camera, which is precisely why the camera couldn't stop finding her.
