SPRINGSTEEN ON THE STREET (POSTHUMOUS), 1975
Printed using the gelatin silver process — the same technique O'Neill used throughout his career, not a digital reproduction. Terry O'Neill photographs Bruce Springsteen on the Sunset Strip, Los Angeles, 1975. Leaning against a street post, hands in pockets, Springsteen cuts a relaxed, unhurried figure against the sprawl of Hollywood — billboards, storefronts, passing traffic. Above him, almost incidentally, the Born to Run billboard looms. O'Neill frames it with characteristic instinct: the future face of American rock, caught between the street and the sky, just as the world was about to know his name.
