Terry O'Neill

DAVID BOWIE (LIFETIME SIGNED), 1974
Printed using the gelatin silver process — the same technique O'Neill used throughout his career, not a digital reproduction. This lifetime edition bears O'Neill's own hand signature, applied individually to each print. With O'Neill's passing in November 2019, no further signed editions can be produced. Each print is individually numbered and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity documenting full provenance.

Terry O'Neill photographs David Bowie in Los Angeles, circa 1974. Mustard yellow suit, dyed red hair, a cigarette at the lip and scissors held loose in his hands — Bowie at his most theatrically unsettling, shot during the Diamond Dogs era. O'Neill frames him front-on, direct and unblinking. It's a portrait that holds two things at once: the artifice of one of rock's great reinventors, and something genuinely unpredictable behind the eyes.
