The morning after Faye Dunaway won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Network (1977), Terry O'Neill was the only photographer present at the Beverly Hills Hotel. He had not been commissioned. He simply knew, from years in Hollywood, where she would be.
The result — Dunaway at a poolside breakfast table, the Oscar statuette beside her coffee cup, the Los Angeles Times spread open in her lap, the morning sun catching her hair — has been described by the British Journal of Photography as one of the fifty greatest photographs ever taken.
The photograph was taken at the Beverly Hills Hotel on 29 March 1977. Dunaway and O'Neill had been in a relationship for several years. He later said: "It wasn't a photograph I planned. It was a moment I recognised."
The image has appeared on the covers of magazines in more than forty countries. Signed and estate-stamped limited edition prints of this series are available exclusively through selected international galleries.
