Terry O'Neill — Limited Edition Prints & Signed Photographs
Terry O'Neill (1938-2019) was one of the most celebrated photographers of the twentieth century, his career spanning six decades and every tier of global celebrity - from the early Beatles and Rolling Stones to royalty, political leaders, and Hollywood's greatest stars.
Born in Dublin on 30 July 1938 and raised in Romford, Essex, O'Neill began his career in the late 1950s as a photographer at Heathrow Airport, where an instinct for catching people off-guard - rather than posed - defined his style from the outset. A chance photograph of Home Secretary Rab Butler sleeping in a departure lounge appeared in the Daily Sketch and launched his career almost overnight. He was twenty-one.
Through the 1960s, O'Neill embedded himself inside the British cultural explosion in a way no other photographer managed. He was on the floor of Abbey Road Studios with the Beatles at the precise moment that world had not yet discovered them; he travelled with the Rolling Stones in their raw, pre-fame months; he photographed Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton, and Terence Stamp as the faces of the decade took shape. These were not press assignments - they were the photographs of a young man who happened to be in the room.
In Hollywood he formed close working relationships that lasted decades. With Frank Sinatra, who famously permitted almost no photographers access, O'Neill became a trusted presence over thirty years - the resulting images are among the most candid ever taken of Sinatra. His relationship with Faye Dunaway produced what many consider the single most iconic photograph of the Academy Awards era: Dunaway at the Beverly Hills Hotel pool the morning after winning her Oscar for Network in 1977, surrounded by the morning papers, the statuette on a table before her, breakfast untouched. No photographer was commissioned to take it. O'Neill simply knew she would be there.
His images of David Bowie during the Diamond Dogs era, Elton John, Rod Stewart, Brigitte Bardot, Raquel Welch, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Sean Connery, and Muhammad Ali document the lives of cultural figures who shaped the latter half of the twentieth century in ways that formal portraiture never could. O'Neill worked in the spaces between the official moments - backstage, poolside, in transit, at rest - and it is in those in-between moments that his photographs find their permanence.
His work entered the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery in London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and major institutions in the United States. He was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society in 2004 and was appointed CBE in 2019 for services to photography.
Terry O'Neill died on 16 November 2019 in London, aged 81. His estate continues to authenticate and release limited edition prints through galleries worldwide. All works available through Drax Studio are authenticated by the Terry O'Neill Estate and carry a lifetime signature or estate stamp under a printed signature. All works are supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

Drax Studio provides documentation for every work.

The most widely reproduced Terry O'Neill photograph is widely considered to be the image of Faye Dunaway the morning after she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Network in 1977. Taken at the Beverly Hills Hotel, it shows Dunaway in a white bathrobe at a poolside breakfast table, the Oscar statuette beside her, surrounded by newspapers. It has been reproduced on magazine covers in more than forty countries. Other contenders include his early portraits of the Beatles (1963), the Rolling Stones (1963-64), and Audrey Hepburn with the dove (1966).
